HP 2600 Color LaserJet Mac OS X Leopard Installation

HP’s 2600 LaserJet printer is a great machine that takes up a small footprint yet offers fast color printing speeds and network capabilities. In this article, we’ll install an HP Color LaserJet 2600 printer on a Macintosh computer. If you’re looking for the installation procedure to install an HP Laserjet 1600 with a Macintosh computer, you’re out of luck. HP doesn’t support this model with Macintosh computers.

To get started, most Mac computers come with built-in drivers for all types of HP, Toshiba, Brother, Dell, and other printers. Just in case you don’t have these drivers pre-installed, lets download the most recent drivers from HP’s website. Click on “MacOS X” and download the “Driver” on the next page. As of writing this article, the file size is approx. 5.3MB.

Once the file is downloaded, find and open the dmg file and click on “hp LaserJet 2600n printer” to begin the driver installation process.

To begin the installation process, click on “Continue”.

Then, read and review the software license agreement and click “Continue” and then “Agree”.

Select your main hard drive, in most cases, there will only be one choice. Then click “Continue”.

To begin the file installation, click on “Install”.

After you see that the installation succeeded, click on “Finish”.

At this time, plug in your HP Color LaserJet printer using a standard USB cable into your computer. Leopard is a smart operating system, in that it knows that you plugged in the HP printer and installs it into your list of available printers. To verify this, lets go into the “Print and Fax” control panel located in the “System Preferences”. You can also do a spotlight search for “Print and Fax”.

In this system preferences pane, you should see your newly installed HP Color LaserJet printer installed and ready to use. I have two because my printer is also networked.

In case you don’t see your printer, we can quickly install it by clicking on the “+” sign underneath the printer list.

This will load the printer installation window. You should see your printer located in this box. If it is not present, double check that the printer is turned on and the USB cable is plugged into an available USB port. Reset the printer or computer if those steps have already been followed.

For a network installation, click on the HP Color LaserJet 2600n with “Bonjour” as the kind. This networking technology makes it easy to quickly install and use network printers like the HP Color LaserJet 2600n.
